There is already a new visual aid from which people with low visión can benefit, augmented reality glasses RETIPLUS.
This new system consists of Epson Moverio glasses and specific software. The glasses have a camera that captures the video images that the user has in front of them, presenting it in real time in the area of the field that the specialist has previously selected, with the appropriate characteristics for each particular case. This process is called “Retiplus digital graduation”, and is done by the specialist introducing individual calibrations through a tablet connected by bluetooth to the Retiplus glasses.
The glasses can be used in a static position and in a dynamic position, and may benefit people with limited visual field (for example in retinitis pigmentosa, glaucoma, hemianopsies, etc.). The user has several configurations and depending on the activity he is doing, he can select the most appropriate one, through a control that is attached to the glasses by means of a cable, inside which is the battery and the processor.
Centre Òptic Màcula Visió has become the first Retiplus Certified Specialist center in Catalonia, where you can try and perform the adaptation of this new visual aid, designed to improve the quality of life of patients with low vision.
